Focus: Black Oklahoma selected for Peabody Award nomination

“Blindspot: Tulsa Burning,” a collaborative podcast between KOSU, Focus: Black Oklahoma, WNYC Studios and The History Channel, has been selected as a Peabody Awards Nominee.

Thirty winners across television, radio, podcasts, and the web are honored annually as the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and streaming media during the previous year.

KOSU, Focus: Black Oklahoma podcast collaboration selected as Peabody Awards Nominee

The Peabody Awards are one of the most prestigious honors in media. Thirty winners across television, radio, podcasts, and the web are honored annually as the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and streaming media during the previous year.

Out of nearly 1,300 entries, a board of jurors selected 60 finalists, including work by PBS, HBO, The New York Times and more. “Blindspot: Tulsa Burning” is one of 11 podcasts on the nominee list.

KOSU, Focus: Black Oklahoma win NAACP Image Award for "Blindspot: Tulsa Burning" podcast collaboration

KOSU and Focus: Black Oklahoma have won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News and Information Podcast for “Blindspot: Tulsa Burning,” a collaboration with WNYC Studios and The History Channel.

The NAACP Image Awards honor outstanding representations and achievements of people of color in motion pictures, television, music, and literature.

This year marks the first time the awards have had a podcast category. Other nominees in the category included podcasts produced by Frontline & PBS, MSNBC and iHeartRadio.

Focus: Black Oklahoma has won an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for “Blindspot: Tulsa Burning,” a collaborative podcast with KOSU, WNYC Studios and The History Channel.

The duPont-Columbia University Awards are considered one of the most prestigious in journalism, recognizing investigations, podcasts and documentary films for the strength of their reporting, storytelling and impact in the public interest.
