The Tulsa based radio news broadcast ‘Focus: Black Oklahoma’ has a new film that they are hoping inspires people to get more involved in their movement.

KOSU and Focus: Black Oklahoma (FBO) are the recipients of a grant from the American Press Institute’s Civic Discourse and Community Voices Fund.

KOSU, StateImpact Oklahoma and Focus: Black Oklahoma picked up 25 awards from the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists, Professional Chapter for stories that aired during 2022.

Out of nearly 1,300 entries, a board of jurors selected 60 finalists, including work by PBS, HBO, The New York Times and more. “Blindspot: Tulsa Burning” is one of 11 podcasts on the nominee list.

KOSU and Focus: Black Oklahoma have won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News and Information Podcast for “Blindspot: Tulsa Burning,” a collaboration with WNYC Studios and The History Channel.

The NAACP Image Awards honor outstanding representations and achievements of people of color in motion pictures, television, music, and literature.

This year marks the first time the awards have had a podcast category. Other nominees in the category included podcasts produced by Frontline & PBS, MSNBC and iHeartRadio.
